St. Landry Parish issues burn ban, effective immediately

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) — St. Landry Parish Government has issued a parish-wide burn ban, effective immediately.

Officials cited dry conditions and elevated fire risk. The burn ban will remain in effect until further notice. Van reed, director of Emergency Preparedness, said while rain is expected this weekend, it will not be enough to reduce the fire risk.

“We met with state meteorologists this morning who said that the rains we’re going to be getting this weekend will not be enough to break the drought, several parts of St. Landry Parish is under extreme drought conditions, so the rains this weekend won’t be enough to break them.” Reed said…
