Enhanced safety measures to be used at future St. Landry events

ST. LANDRY PARISH, la. (KLFY) — St. Landry Parish is establishing a new security standard for future local events following the success of enhanced safety measures at recent Zyde Gras on the Square and Eunice festivities.

The new protocols utilized a fenced perimeter and increased law enforcement presence to ensure a weapon-free environment for attendees. The security strategy featured an eight-foot-tall fence and controlled entry points where guests were screened for dangerous items. While the measures resulted in a safe event with no reported weapons, Parish President Jessie Bellard said the parish is already planning adjustments to improve crowd management and entry efficiency for next year.

“There was no weapons involved,” Bellard said. “There were no weapons found anywhere around the courthouse. We checked coming in. The line was long to come in, but it moved fast.”…
