Body of Lafayette man returned to funeral home after more than 50 days

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — The body of 32-year-old Jamel Wiltz was released to a Lafayette funeral home on Feb. 16, ending more than 50 days of uncertainty for his family.

Wiltz died Christmas morning at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge after being transferred from the Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System in Jackson, where he had been receiving treatment.

His family says that in the weeks following his death, they were unable to obtain a death certificate, a confirmed cause of death or clear information about where his body was being held. They later learned Wiltz’s remains had been at the Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System morgue in Jackson for more than 30 days…
