Pair indicted for murder in Opelousas deadly shooting from December

A St. Landry Parish grand jury indicted two men for a December murder in Opelousas, according to District Attorney Chad Pitre. He said Dominique Trotter, 22, and Kurtel Gallien, 25, both of Opelousas, are formally charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Markee Benjamin, 23, also from Opelousas. He added it happened on December 12, 2025, when Benjamin was in the passenger seat of a car at the intersection of Market Street and Church Street, and gunshots rang out, hitting Benjamin and the vehicle.
