LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — Lafayette Consolidated Government has kicked off construction on sidewalk improvements along Carmel Drive. This marks the first visible phase of work aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and connectivity.
The project features ADA-compliant sidewalks on both sides of Carmel Drive, extending from Teurlings Drive to near LA 94. Crosswalk enhancements are also part of the plans to boost pedestrian safety. The construction covers nearly a half-mile and began in January 2026, with completion expected by September 2026.
