Lafayette to host a weekend of music and historic home tours at this unique festival

The Sterling Grove neighborhood of Lafayette consists of stately homes, tree-lined streets and friendly residents who are willing to open their doors to the community.

The Sterling Grove Festival will be held March 20 and 21 in the Sterling Grove Historic District, centered on North Sterling Street. The block is home to historic houses like the Charles H. Mouton house at 338 N. Sterling St., the Givens house at 324 N. Sterling St., and the John Nickerson house at 310 N. Sterling St.

These properties have been restored, and are available to rent or host events — and during the festival, they are included in a list of historic home tours highlighting the history of the neighborhood.

That history tracks back to the founding of Lafayette. The Mouton home was once a plantation seat owned by Lafayette’s founder, Jean Mouton. His son, Charles, constructed the home that merges Greek Revival and French Creole architectural elements, and can be seen while driving on Mudd Avenue, two blocks north of the NE Evangeline Thruway…
