‘The not knowing is what hurts’: Family of 19-year-old killed in New Iberia still wants answers

More than two years after 19-year-old Madison Olivier was shot and killed in New Iberia, her family is still searching for answers and holding on to the memories she left behind.

“Every sunrise in the morning and every sunset in the afternoon, we see her,” her grandfather, Johnny Bourque, said. “It’s like she’s still with us.”

The shooting occurred on Feb. 22, 2024, in the 400 block of Calhoun Street. Police received reports of gunshots near Calhoun Street and East Pershing Street. When police arrived, they found Olivier inside a vehicle with a single gunshot wound. She later died from her injuries, according to police…
