CROWLEY, La. (KLFY) — Crowley Alderman, Vernon Martin plans to file a $1 billion lawsuit following his arrest this week for contempt of court. The arrest was related to $2,000 in an unpaid child support payment dating back to 2013.
Martin, who also goes by the name “Step,” was taken into custody Tuesday and released on Wednesday. The alderman alleges that his civil rights were violated during the proceedings, claiming he was denied the opportunity to settle the debt before a deadline he believed was set for the end of the day.
“Basically, I went over there to see what was what and [they] told me, ‘You off the docket? Oh, you need to talk to the judge,’” Martin said. Following that interaction, a deputy served him with a notice to appear in court on Tuesday…
