New Lease on Faith: Family Justice Center of Acadiana reopens

Kayla Morin has been working at Faith House of Acadiana in some capacity since she was 13 years old, first as a youth and survivor advocate and now as the director of the organization’s residential shelter.

A witness and survivor of domestic violence herself, she felt called to help others escape the potentially fatal threat, and to let them know: you’re not alone. “Domestic violence can be very isolating,” Morin says. “For every life that I do change, whether it’s small, or large, it doesn’t matter to me. It matters that somebody has a fresh start.”

On Thursday, Faith House and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office celebrated the reopening of the Family Justice Center, a collaborative facility where those experiencing domestic violence can find shelter, counseling, legal resources and other assistance.
