A 57-year-old Louisiana man faces multiple criminal charges after allegedly driving drunk into a crowd of parade-goers at the Louisiana Lao New Year Festival in Iberia Parish on Saturday, injuring at least 15 people, some critically.
Rebecca Melancon, a public information officer for the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Department (IPSD), previously told Newsweek in an email Saturday that the driver was in custody.
“Based on the preliminary investigation, this does not appear to be an intentional act,” Melancon added.
