Louisiana’s Best Burger Can Be Found in Acadiana

(KMDL-FM) When you think about it, it truly is one of the simplest sandwiches you can make. It’s a piece of meat between two slices of bread. How you dress the burger, well, that’s your option. What makes your burger the best? Well, that’s a question people have been attempting to answer since “burgers” became a thing.

In the United States, at least three places claim to be the birthplace of what we now know as the hamburger. Those places are Seymour, Wisconsin, which claims Charlie Nagreen invented the sandwich in 1885. Also in that same year, the Menches Brothers of Hamburg, New York, are alleged to have introduced the sandwich at the Erie County Fair.

And in New Haven, Connecticut, Louis Lassen is said to have created the first burger there in 1900, serving beef trimmings molded into a patty between two toasted slices of bread. Now, to trace the origins of the patty, you can look all the way back to Hamburg, Germany, and the “Hamburg Steak,” which was basically a patty without the bun.

Suppose you’re the average American, then you like cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions on your burger. The condiment choices are ketchup, mayo, and mustard. We listed those ingredients in order from most popular to least popular.

But what about when you put the whole package together? Who in Louisiana delivers the best burger in the state? If you live in Acadiana, you won’t have too far to travel. And if you’ve lived in Acadiana since the 1950s, you already know this legendary burger retailer.

The Judice Inn has solid online reviews for its burgers; there were also accolades for the outstanding service and unique “old timey” atmosphere. My only issue with Judice Inn has been the parking, but I guess when you’re popular, that is a natural byproduct of your success…
