UPDATE: Shackled man who escaped custody in Opelousas killed in multi-agency shooting

LAFAYETTE PARISH, La. (KPLC) – Louisiana State Police detectives are investigating a multi-agency police-involved shooting that happened Saturday in Lafayette Parish.

The incident ended with the death of 34-year-old Michael Vavasseur of Duson, according to LSP Troop I.

According to the preliminary investigation, Scott police tried to stop a Nissan Altima driven by Vavasseur. Troopers said he was wanted after escaping from police custody in Opelousas on April 15, and he did not stop, leading to a chase through Lafayette Parish and into Carencro…
