ST. MARTINVILLE — Doris Batiste Broussard’s life spanned more than nine decades, and her legacy will continue for many more. The 91-year-old passed away on March 25 and made Louisiana history as the oldest organ donor on record.
“I thought it was a wonderful idea. It was her decision. So I just supported her,” Broussard’s son, Harvey Batiste told UWK. He said she was a registered organ donor for over 20 years.
Liver recipient
A 68-year-old Florida man successfully received Broussard’s liver, and he is reportedly thriving.
“He reached out to us,” Batiste said. “He’s grateful that he’s able to live and that she did what she did for him. We’re going to get together eventually. I’m going to drive out and meet him and his family. It was really nice for him to be praying for the family and being thankful that he has an opportunity to live.”…
