WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Winter Haven is the latest city in the Tampa Bay area to take a closer look at what a higher property tax exemption could mean for them.
Voters are expected to decide this November on whether to boost the exemption for homesteaded properties to $250,000.
City Manager T. Michael Stavres told commissioners that Winter Haven could lose around $10 million a year once that exemption is fully in effect in year two. That’s about a third of its general fund revenue. Those funds pay for police and fire, park and street improvements, and more…
