A South Carolina man who has now been found guilty of three murders, two in Florida following the first one in Tennessee, has been denied a motion for a new trial in the 2019 Greeneville death of Christopher Scott Short.
Stanley Mossburg has remained in the Greene County Detention Center since a jury took around an hour last month to find him guilty on all seven courts in the stabbing death of Short outside of what was then the Celebrity Coin Laundry on East Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville.
At the time the verdict was announced, Judge Alex Peason ruled the four murder convictions would be converged when Mossburg is returned to Polk County, Florida where he is already serving two life sentences without the possibility of parole. A motion today by defense attorney Hunter Shelton that the sentences be amended to run concurrent with the Florida charges was denied. Judge Pearson also denied motions by Shelton related to an in-jail phone call between Mossburg, his mother and supposed stepfather that had been ruled admissible during trial. Pearson also ruled the evidence presented during trial was enough to find Mossburg guilty, and that Mossburg was properly mirandized during the investigation…
