Eagle Lake investigates ‘Truck-gate’ and city finances

Following pressure from concerned residents, the Eagle Lake City Commission has three items on its Sept. 9 agenda to deliberate following a series of contentious meetings in recent months.

The commission will decide whether to hire an investigator to look into the disposition of a city-owned vehicle, generate a scope of work for a forensic auditor to look at the city’s finances and consider applications for the vacant Seat 2.

Earlier this summer, the meetings raised the ire of residents and had them scrambling to save the old Eagle Lake Schoolhouse. But with that saved from the wrecking ball, the commission meeting on Aug. 3 focused on the need for a forensic audit of the city’s finances and the surplus disposal of a city pickup truck – an issue residents have dubbed “Truck-gate.”…
