Preserving the past entails many aspects, and when it comes to landmark structures such as the old courthouse in downtown Bartow, now long the home of the Polk County History Center, maintenance is imperative.
This past Sept. 28, work on the dome started, but it wasn’t until several days later that the first signs were noticed: scaffolding was seen, followed by netting surrounding the dome.
The project consists of general maintenance work, including resealing and repairs, deep cleaning, and polishing the dome’s structure. It will also include installing new stainless-steel trim where needed to help protect it.
The cost is an estimated $152,250, with the work being done by Tampa-based Specialized Property Services Inc. Work is projected to be completed by Dec. 15…
