Dade City man dies in crash after stealing passerby’s car from separate crash scene, FHP says

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A Dade City man stole a passerby’s car after being involved in a crash Tuesday night and drove off before fatally crashing into a tractor-trailer, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The 29-year-old Dade City man, who has not been named, was driving eastbound on SR-50 near Kettering Road in Hernando County when he crashed into a traffic median barrier, troopers said. A 35-year-old Webster woman stopped to help when the man stole her car and drove off.

The man then crashed into a tractor-trailer head-on near Hartness Drive, troopers said. The man, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.

The tractor-trailer driver had minor injuries.

No other details were immediately available.
