HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — There are plans to relieve congestion on I-75 in fall 2024.
A nearly mile-and-a-half-long project will cross over three cities in Hillsborough County: Tampa, Seffner, and Thonotosassa.
“We have a lot of people moving to our great state,” said Kris Carson, Florida Department of Transportation Spokesperson. “There’s a lot of traffic out there.”
The Florida Department of Transportation plans to add a lane to both the southbound and northbound directions of I-75 between the Tampa Bypass Canal and Fowler Avenue.
Bridges over the canal and Harney Road will be widened. Bridge structures over U.S. 301 will be replaced.
Carson said they still need to put the project out for bid and plan to do it in June.
“We’re really just hoping to provide some relief for drivers,” Carson said.
FDOT will have a better idea of detours and lane closures when the project gets closer to starting.
