LIVE: SR-56 closed after semi overturns in Pasco County, spilling nearly 4 tons of gravel

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. (WFLA) — Part of SR-56 is closed in Wesley Chapel after a semi truck hauling gravel overturned east of Interstate-75 on Monday.

All eastbound lanes are closed at Cypress Ridge Blvd., according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a SUV hit the semi while changing lanes. The truck overturned after the collision and spilled 7,900 pounds of gravel into the intersection.

The state’s Rapid Incident Scene Clearance program was activated and crews are working to remove the gravel.

The eastbound lanes of SR-56 are closed from Cypress Ridge Blvd. to Bruce B. Downs Blvd. Drivers were told to expect delays in the area.
