FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL HIGH-SPEED CHASE ENDS IN CRASH

On the evening of Tuesday, June 25, Florida Highway Troopers (FHP) located a motorcycle traveling westbound on Interstate 4 (I-4) near mile marker 35 in Polk County. The rider, 40-year-old Michael Javier Ormeno of Orlando, failed to stop and a pursuit ensued westbound on I-4 into Hillsborough County at speeds up to 140 miles per hour. The rider exited onto Alexander Street and entered Plant City. The decision was made by FHP command staff to discontinue the pursuit. However, the motorcyclist continued traveling at high speed and eventually crashed into a Chevy pickup on Baker Street near Seminole Lake Boulevard. The rider suffered non-life threatening injuries, and was transported to an area hospital. After being treated, he was later delivered to the Polk County Jail and charged with fleeing and eluding.
