Families enjoy annual Red, White & Kaboom in Lakeland

LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — A magnificent display of fireworks lit up the night sky in Lakeland.

The annual Red, White & Kaboom Independence Day celebration captivated the audience around Lake Mirror.

“It’s how I feel every single day of my life,” Sandy Oblitas said. “How proud I am of my country and those who served our country as well. I love America.”

Many families spend time building traditions.

“Raising our kids in the same area we grew up in, we have a responsibility to hold on to tradition and keep it going,” Meg Shaw Daniels said.

Everyone who attended the event was asked to bring food donations for Volunteers in Service to the Elderly (VISTE). The non-profit organization provides food for seniors who continue to live independently in their homes.

“That person who brings the food is just as important as the food itself,” said Steve Bissonnette, president of VISTE.
