George Jenkins senior Caden Baker followed up his county and district titles by running a personal-best 15:32.63 on Saturday morning to win class 4A, Region 3 cross country meet in North Port.
Baker won by 12 seconds over Newsome’s Santiago Foster (15:44.75).
George Jenkins paced two more runners in the top 15 to finish regional runner-up. Sam Otero ran 16:08.40 to finish seventh, and Jacob Garces ran 16:14.25 to finish 13th.
The Eagles finished with 93 points to finish behind George Steinbrenner (75 points) but edged third-place Newsome by six points.
For the girls, the top local finisher was George Jenkins’ Lillian Cho who finished 35th in 20:36.28. Jenkins finished 13th as a team, and Lakeland was 16th.
3A-2: Lake Wales’ Harris, Windham finish top 10
Sophomore Gabriel Harris ran 16:16.60 to finish third, and junior William Windham ran 16:39.10 to lead the Lake Wales boys to a regional runner-up finish as a team at the 3A-2 region meet.
Dylan Garcia also finished in the top 20 for Lake Wales in 20th place. Lake Wales finished with 100 points to trail regional champion Satellite by 55 points and finished 12 points in front of third-place Rocklege.
