The Department of Environmental Protection reported a discharge of approximately 14,000 gallons of raw wastewater onto the ground at Foxwood Lake Estates in Lakeland following Hurricane Milton.
The spill occurred from Oct. 17 to Oct. 31, the agency reported. Polk County Utilities was alerted Oct. 17 about the collapse of a private stormwater line near Tally Ho Drive in Foxwood Lake Estates. When this line collapsed, it struck the county’s wastewater gravity main, causing the main to break and discharge raw wastewater, DEP said in its report.
The discharge was contained onsite, and remediation efforts included bringing a bypass pump onsite and pumping the wastewater flow to nearby lift station, DEP reported.
