LAKE WALES, Fla. (WFLA) — A Lake Wales resident shot an intruder on Tuesday night and then held him at gunpoint until the police arrived.
According to a news release by the Lake Wales Police Department, the incident occurred around 11:35 p.m.
Police were called to a home in the 700 block of South Scenic Highway in Polk County after the resident called to report the intrusion.
Upon arrival, LWPD said they found Cameron McGuire, 34, with a gunshot wound in his leg.
The homeowner told LWPD that he had awoken to the sound of his dog barking and discovered McGuire inside the home.
He told McGuire to “freeze,” but the suspect ignored him and continued to walk toward him until he fired one time, hitting McGuire the leg.
In their investigation, police said they discovered that the suspect had entered the home through a kitchen window.
After receiving treatment at a nearby hospital, McGuire was arrested by police and booked into the Polk County Jail.
He has been charged with burglary to an occupied dwelling and theft.
