On December 18, 2024, a wastewater overflow at 4753 US Highway 92 in Auburndale resulted in the release of wastewater, according to the official pollution notice. The overflow occurred between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and prompted an emergency response to mitigate the spill.
According to the incident report, valves and lift stations were shut down, and tanker trucks were deployed to bypass the wastewater. Killebrew Inc. was contracted to repair the issue and manage the cleanup. 105,000 gallons of recovered wastewater was transported to the Allred and Regional Wastewater Treatment Plants.
Cleanup efforts include pumping storm ditches along Highway 92, treating standing water with HTH, and stabilizing the affected area with lime. As of posting, tanker trucks continue to remove residual water as part of the ongoing response.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection was notified of the incident, as required by law. The impacted area remains under observation as cleanup efforts continue.
