Mother convicted of aggravated manslaughter in death of two-month-old son

POLK COUNTY, Florida — A Polk County jury has convicted Judith Torres-Garcia of aggravated manslaughter following the death of her two-month-old child. The infant was found unresponsive in July 2021, with signs of blunt force trauma and red marks on his body, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.Deputies responded to Torres-Garcia’s home after a 911 call and discovered a large amount of drugs present. The baby was declared dead at the hospital. Torres-Garcia is scheduled to be sentenced on February 7, 2025. State Attorney Brian Haas expressed gratitude to Assistant State Attorney Seth Solomon and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office for their efforts in seeking justice for the victim, stated the State Attorney’s Office, 10th Judicial Circuit.
