On Friday, January 3, 2025, at approximately 11:12 AM, two Polk County Sheriff’s Office detectives observed two Corvettes revving their engines side-by-side at the intersection of Church Avenue and Virginia Street in Mulberry.
The sports cars, a silver 2005 Corvette driven by 62-year-old James Rivera of Lakeland and a burgundy 2007 Corvette driven by 30-year-old Alexander Mackenzie Snider of Bartow, rapidly accelerated, reaching speeds over 100 mph and weaving through traffic.
The detectives initiated traffic stops on both vehicles. Rivera and Snider denied racing and were reportedly uncooperative with authorities.
Both men were arrested and transported to the Polk County Jail, where they were charged with racing, a first-degree misdemeanor. Their bonds were set at $1,000 each.
