TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Additional lanes are in the works for a portion of Interstate 4 in Polk County.
According to the Florida Department of Transportation, the westernmost project of the Moving I-4 Forward initiative involves 3.4 miles of construction from the west of US-27 to east of the Ronald Regan Parkway.
Upon completion, Project 3 “will have a final roadway configuration of four general-use lanes and two express lanes in each direction.” It will also add ramps from the I-4 express lanes to US-27 and vice versa.
A new overpass will also be built at Grandview Parkway to connect the roadway on either side of I-4, in collaboration with the county.
The Moving I-4 Forward initiative aims to improve traffic flow and safety from eastern Polk County into Osceola and Orange counties. Project 3 is expected to be complete in 2027.
