Lakeland man with extensive criminal history arrested after fleeing traffic stop

LAKELAND, Florida — A 41-year-old Lakeland man with a lengthy criminal history was arrested after attempting to flee from a traffic stop on a bicycle, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Christopher William Sodt was apprehended on Wednesday evening, April 9, 2025, after a Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop him for a traffic offense at West Parker Street and Grady Lane in Lakeland. Sodt initially tried to escape by pedaling faster and then abandoned his bicycle to flee on foot. Although he managed to kick the deputy and briefly evade capture, deputies quickly caught up with him.

Sodt was taken into custody and charged with fleeing to elude, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting with violence, and resisting without violence. Additional charges may be forthcoming, stated the Polk County Sheriff’s Office…
