WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (WFLA) — Residents were ordered to evacuate their Winter Haven homes on Tuesday afternoon after police said a propane tank was struck by a construction crew.
The Winter Haven Fire Department responded to what they initially thought was a gas leak at the new Winter Haven Recreation and Cultural Center on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Crews were concerned that an excavator had hit a gas line, prompting evacuations of nearby residents. A reverse 911 call was conducted in the area, alerting residents of an emergency in the area.
However, Central Florida Gas discovered that at 12:15 p.m., a construction crew struck an underground propane tank.
