Canoeing woman killed in alligator attack at Florida state park

TAMPA, Fla. ( WFLA ) — A woman is dead after Florida wildlife officials say an alligator tipped the canoe she was traveling in with her husband and bit her on Tuesday.

The attack was reported around 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the mouth of Tiger Creek on Lake Kissimmee, located between Polk and Osceola counties.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) shared Wednesday that the husband and wife were in a canoe when they passed over a large alligator in the water, which was about 2.5 feet deep. The alligator thrashed and tipped the canoe, sending both people into the water.
