Lost cat dodges ‘countless dangers’ to make 2.7-mile journey home to Lakeland complex

LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — A determined feline made a solo 2.7-mile journey home after getting separated from his caretakers last month.

The fluffy ginger and white cat named George is beloved by the community at the Loma Verde complex near Scott Lake where he roams but shares a particularly special bond with the residents at one home in the area.

Their connection started shortly after they moved to the area and began brushing George, offering him food, and a dry place to rest. George could often be found curled up in an old chair at the home after long nights of prowling back alleys.

The feline’s caretakers eventually decided to take advantage of SPCA Florida’s program for neutering backyard cats and brought him to the facility on April 6.

However, when they returned to pick him up, George’s caretakers described the scene as something “straight out of an old prison break movie.”…
