Bartow group home where fatal stabbing occurred was not licensed by state

The fatal stabbing of an 81-year-old resident at an adult group home in Bartow raises questions about the protections for residents of such facilities.

Moses Ojeda, 18, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Patrick Benway at the group home on Bluebird Avenue. Ojeda snuck into Benway’s room late at night on May 17 and began stabbing him as he slept, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said at a news conference.
