Polk County construction is out of control
There is a huge gap between managed growth and urban sprawl. What you are witnessing in Central Florida, and Polk County specifically, is simply out-of-control construction.
This is a result of the misguided views of county and municipal officials of windfall revenue from increased property and sales taxes.
There is no way this rate of construction can be sustained. The infrastructure to service all this construction is inadequate and will not be sufficient for years, if ever. In Haines City, the DOT is adding two additional lanes to U.S. 27. This should have occurred 20 years ago. When all the construction is finished, it will be time to add additional lanes…
