A 28-year-old motorcyclist from Lakeland was tragically killed Monday afternoon in a collision involving a pickup truck in Lake County. The fatal crash occurred around 12:00 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 33 and Pine Island Rd in Groveland, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Investigators reported that a Yamaha YZF-R1 motorcycle was traveling south on SR 33, approaching Pine Island Rd, when the accident took place. Just ahead of the motorcyclist, a Ford F-250 driven by a 63-year-old Inverness woman was also traveling southbound and began making a left turn to head east on Pine Island Rd.
Troopers said the motorcyclist attempted to pass vehicles in a no-passing zone when the truck initiated its turn. The motorcycle’s front end collided with the left side of the pickup, resulting in the rider being ejected from the bike.
