Tampa, Florida – Scattered thunderstorms and dangerous heat are expected to sweep through the Tampa Bay area Saturday, bringing heat indices up to 105 degrees and afternoon travel delays.
According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, skies will remain partly to mostly cloudy with numerous showers and storms developing into the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures will rise into the upper 80s along the coast and low 90s inland, while high humidity will push the heat index into triple digits.
Southeast winds between 5 to 10 mph are forecast to turn onshore later today, drawing in additional moisture and fueling storm development. Urban areas like St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Tampa may see brief flooding, lightning, and reduced visibility during peak commute times.
