LAKELAND, Fla. – Just after midnight on Thursday, July 17th, a routine traffic stop for no lights on New Tampa Highway led Polk County deputies to uncover the true identity of a wanted man.

The incident, which occurred in front of the Tiger Villa Motel, resulted in the arrest of 48-year-old Carlos Cruz-Cano of Lakeland.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy initiated the stop when he observed a vehicle operating without lights. Upon request for identification, the driver identified himself as Alberto Cruz, providing a date of birth and Social Security number.
