Lakeland officers undergo water rescue training after ‘shock’ from last year’s flooding

LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — Hurricane Milton, and the flooding it brought with it, was a “shock” to the Lakeland Police Department’s Dive Team.

The rescues were so unprecedented, the officers felt they needed more practice going into a new hurricane season.

Some communities, specifically mobile homes, were inundated with water, requiring people to be rescued from rooftops and on top of kitchen counters…
