The Side of Policing Most People Never See

On my way to a LakelandPD graduation, I saw a man in the pouring rain pushing his scooter, which had run out of power. I tried to help, but before I could even finish explaining to the officers inside, one who had just pulled in and another at the front desk sprang into action.

They lifted his scooter, brought him inside, and let him plug in to recharge—no hesitation, no questions asked.

They didn’t have to. It wasn’t a call for service. It was simply who they are.

To the men and women of the Lakeland Police Department—thank you for serving with compassion and heart. Your quiet acts of kindness make our city stronger…
