Speed Demon’s Joyride Ends in Jail
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A 24-year-old Winter Haven man, Nicholas Ker Bedard, found his brief return to the road cut short after being arrested on Sunday, August 10, for a high-speed joyride. Bedard, whose driver’s license had only been reinstated a couple of weeks prior, was clocked going 107 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The incident began just before midnight on Saturday when Deputy Warren of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office noticed a gray Chevy Silverado pickup truck speeding eastbound on Cypress Gardens Boulevard. The deputy’s radar confirmed the truck’s dangerous velocity near Lake Ruby Road, far exceeding the posted speed limit.
The high-speed pursuit ended when the truck abruptly slowed and made a sharp left turn onto Lamplight Lane, kicking up a cloud of dirt. Upon being pulled over, Bedard initially claimed he was unaware of his speed but then contradicted himself by stating he was in a hurry to get home. His trip home was ultimately delayed, as he was arrested and taken to the Polk County Jail…
