SunRail Considers Adding Late-Night Weekday Service to Boost Ridership

Central Florida’s commuter rail system, SunRail, may soon expand its weekday schedule to include late-night service. Officials are weighing the addition of two evening trips between Poinciana and DeLand, aiming to increase ridership while keeping operating costs stable.

The proposal includes a northbound train departing Poinciana at 8:45 p.m. and arriving in DeLand at 10:26 p.m., and a southbound train leaving DeLand close to 10 p.m. with a scheduled arrival in Poinciana at 11:38 p.m. If approved, the change would raise the number of weekday trips from 40 to 42.

Transit leaders project the expanded schedule could attract about 2,000 more riders each month, generating an estimated $10,000 in additional revenue. The late-night service is intended to serve both traditional commuters and those traveling for evening events or leisure…
