‘Treated like trash’: Patriot Inn residents forced out after Plant City buys land, plans to demolish building

PLANT CITY, Fla. (WFLA) — Nearly a dozen people living at the Patriot Inn in Plant City said they feel hopeless after getting a letter from the city saying they have to move out by next week.

The former property manager of the 13-room inn said residents pay $285 a week. Many of them told 8 On Your Side they just want to keep a roof over their heads.

“I work every day. I don’t see why somebody that works every day should be homeless,” said Paul Meier, who’s lived there for four years.

Meier said he and his neighbors got a letter from the city on Sept. 16 saying the city bought the Patriot Inn, the city plans to demolish the building, and residents must be out by Oct. 3…
