Man Sentenced to Five Years for Traveling to Meet Minor in Hernando County

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — A Plant City man has been sentenced to five years in the Florida Department of Corrections after being arrested during an undercover operation targeting individuals seeking to engage in sexual activity with minors, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

Juan Carlos Romero, 20, was sentenced on Sept. 26, 2025. Following his prison term, he will be required to register as a sex offender.

The conviction stems from an investigation that began on July 17, 2024, when detectives from the HCSO Major Crimes Section’s Special Victims Unit conducted an undercover operation, during which eight suspects were arrested. Six of the eight suspects were Hernando County residents…
