A Florida wood stork is recovering after residents spotted it struggling in tangled fishing line near the shores of a neighborhood lake.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said “alert” Bartow residents called late Tuesday afternoon to report finding a wood stork tangled in a fishing lure and line at Hack Lake. Polk County Animal Control Officers Williams and Shores responded to the scene to help rescue the bird.
A video shared by the sheriff’s office shows Officer Williams removing his shoes and rolling up his pants legs to get into the water with the distressed bird.
