Florida Southern Alumna Awarded Fulbright to Teach in Slovak Republic

Florida Southern College alumna Emily Kujan has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship and will spend the upcoming academic year teaching in the Slovak Republic.

Kujan, a graduate of Florida Southern’s School of Education, is among recent grantees of the U.S. government’s flagship international education exchange program. Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has worked to build mutual understanding between the United States and other nations, providing participants with scholarships and stipends to support their year abroad.

As a Fulbright recipient, Kujan will join the ranks of distinguished alumni that include heads of state, judges, cabinet ministers, CEOs, ambassadors, and university presidents, along with leading artists, journalists, scientists, and teachers. Fulbright alumni include 62 Nobel laureates, 95 Pulitzer Prize winners, and 82 MacArthur fellows. Since its founding in 1946, more than 400,000 individuals have participated in the program.

Through the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program, Kujan will help Slovak students improve their language skills while immersing herself in the country’s culture and serving as a cultural ambassador for the United States.
