Lakeland commissioners approve sale of 2 properties to Publix for $20

LAKELAND, Fla. — While it isn’t like their famous buy-one-get-one free deals, Publix just got an unbelievable deal on two new properties in Lakeland.

City commissioners approved the purchase of a building and parking garage for a total of $20 because of an option in a lease from 1995.

Publix has leased a property at 321 South Kentucky Avenue, which used to be a JCPenney store, according to city documents. The Lakeland-based grocery store chain now uses it for office and administrative purposes, and the company is responsible for maintenance, repairs and property taxes, according to the lease…
