POLK COUNTY, Fla. – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) has identified the suspect they were searching for on Monday afternoon, following a dangerous high-speed chase and crash in the Highland City area. Authorities are now seeking 21-year-old De’Ante Guilford, who is wanted on multiple serious charges.
The incident began around 12:45 p.m. on Monday, October 27th, when Guilford, driving a black Kia Forte, was allegedly observed operating the vehicle southbound on US 98 at speeds exceeding 100 MPH. According to the PCSO, Guilford drove recklessly, forcing several vehicles out of the way and crashing into one before attempting to flee from a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper and PCSO deputies.
The pursuit ended when Guilford crashed into a fence and stopped the vehicle in a pasture near Ernest Smith Blvd. He then fled the scene on foot, prompting a perimeter search that drew significant law enforcement presence to the area.
