BARTOW, Fla. (WFLA) — A Bartow man has been found guilty of assaulting a Deputy U.S. Marshal, U.S. Attorney Greg Kehoe said on Friday.

Earlier this year, U.S. Marshals were looking for 36-year-old Myles Strickland, who was wanted on an arrest warrant out of Polk County. When he was located in Lee County, Strickland led law enforcement on a foot chase, Kehoe said.
Strickland was carrying a jacket while he ran, which police learned he was using to hide a firearm. At one point during the chase, he turned around and reached into the jacket to rack the slide of the weapon, indicating he was going to fire at his pursuers, Kehoe said.

Law enforcement then fired at and struck Strickland, who was treated for his injuries and taken into custody.
On Nov. 21, Kehoe announced that a federal jury found Strickland guilty of assaulting a federal officer with a deadly weapon, using, carrying, and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
