Eagle Lake Resident Arrested After Infant Critically Injured in Local Home

On December 8, 2025, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested Zachary Ingram, 24, of Eagle Lake, Florida. He faces charges of aggravated child abuse, a first-degree felony. The arrest followed an incident involving a three-month-old baby boy who was injured while in Ingram’s care.

The investigation began on November 26, 2025. Authorities responded to a 911 call about an unresponsive infant at a home in Eagle Lake. Ingram told police the baby had been sleeping in a swing while he used the bathroom for 10-15 minutes. He said he found the child pale and unresponsive when he returned. Ingram called the baby’s mother and then 911. He performed CPR until emergency responders arrived.

Medical staff at Winter Haven Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa found the infant had a brain bleed, hemorrhaging, and bruising on several parts of his body. The baby was moved to the pediatric intensive care unit and is in critical but stable condition.
